Products & Materials

Yes. Every Heavy Lies piece is made from 925 sterling silver — that's 92.5% pure silver alloyed with 7.5% copper for durability. Any piece weighing over 7.78 grams is independently hallmarked at Birmingham Assay Office, the UK's oldest assay office (established 1773). This is a legal requirement in the UK and your guarantee of authenticity. You can verify the hallmark on any Heavy Lies piece — look for the lion passant (sterling silver mark), the anchor (Birmingham), and the date letter.

Sterling silver is solid silver throughout — the same material from surface to core. Silver plated jewellery is a thin layer of silver (typically 0.5–2.5 microns) electroplated over a base metal like brass or copper. The plating inevitably wears off with daily wear, exposing the base metal underneath — which can cause skin discoloration and allergic reactions. Heavy Lies only uses solid 925 sterling silver. No plating. No base metal core.

Stainless steel is not a precious metal. It's an industrial alloy used in cutlery, surgical equipment, and construction. While durable, it has no intrinsic value and cannot be hallmarked. Our pieces are 925 sterling silver — a genuine precious metal that has been valued for thousands of years, holds its resale value, and develops a unique patina with wear. Sterling silver is also hypoallergenic, while some stainless steel alloys contain nickel which can cause reactions.

Sterling silver can develop a natural patina over time when exposed to air, moisture, and skin oils. This is completely normal and actually a sign your silver is genuine — plated and stainless steel pieces don't tarnish because they aren't real silver. Tarnish is purely cosmetic and easy to manage: store your pieces in the anti-tarnish pouch included with every order, and polish occasionally with the included silver cloth. For heavier tarnish, a simple baking soda and warm water soak brings the shine right back. Many people actually prefer the aged patina look — it gives each piece character.

We design for substance. Our rings range from 5g to 15g depending on the design. Chains range from 15g to 45g. When you pick up a Heavy Lies piece, you'll feel the difference immediately — the weight is what tells you it's real silver, not a hollow stainless steel imitation.

Orders

If your order hasn't shipped yet, reply to your order confirmation email and we'll sort it immediately. Once an order has been dispatched, we're unable to make changes — but you can return it under our 30-day return policy for a full refund.

Every Heavy Lies order arrives in our signature black box with a polishing cloth and anti-tarnish storage pouch included. It's presentation-ready straight out of the box — no additional gift wrapping needed.

Returns & Warranty

30 days, no questions asked. If you're not completely satisfied, return the item in its original packaging for a full refund. We'll even cover return shipping for UK orders. Refunds are processed within 5–7 business days of receiving the return.

Every Heavy Lies piece comes with a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects. If your piece breaks under normal wear, contact us and we'll repair or replace it free of charge. This doesn't cover damage from misuse, chemical exposure, or normal wear and patina — but we're reasonable people. If something goes wrong, get in touch.

Sizing

We have a detailed Size Guide with instructions for measuring at home. The easiest method: wrap a strip of paper around your finger, mark where it overlaps, measure the length in millimetres, and match it to our UK size chart. We offer UK sizes L through V. Tip: measure at the end of the day when your fingers are at their largest, and if you're choosing a wider band, go up half a size.

18" sits at the base of the neck — best for pendants and layering. 20" falls just below the collarbone — the most popular length, works with most necklines. 22" sits a few inches below the collarbone — great for v-necks and open shirts. 24" reaches above the sternum — best for layering or chunky pendants. If you're between sizes, go longer. See our Size Guide for a visual reference.
